When it comes to healthy breakfast and lunch ideas, it’s not so much that you don’t know what to eat.  Instead, in the moment, you’ve got 9000+ other things on your mind (Who’s got carpool tonight? Did you pick up eggs for that recipe? What time was that meeting?), and so you end up just grabbing something.

And all too often, what is grab-able isn’t healthy!

Think about it. If you haven’t planned ahead, and it’s at your fingertips, I’m betting it looks something like this:

  • Random snack food
  • Vending machine food
  • Chocolate

You know what I’m talking about, right?  Please tell me I’m not the only one!

In the past couple posts, I’ve really wanted to emphasize the reality that the best ‘diet’ is not a diet at all, but a way of life. Instead of eating according to a prescribed plan, many of us, if we choose to tune in and listen to our bodies, can truly learn to eat in an intuitive manner.

What does that mean? If you’re confused, or curious, I hope you’ll scroll back and check out the posts I did on quitting the scaleand intuitive eating, but for now, in a nutshell:

The absolute best way to eat for a healthy lifestyle, for good strong workouts, and for attaining and maintaining your ideal weight:

  • Listen to your body
  • Eat to your hunger cues
  • Feed your body nutrient-dense, energy-full foods most of the time, and
  • Enjoy your treats some of the time

In all my time coaching busy moms to begin running, move more, and eat better, I have learned that most of us really do know what to eat.

Does that mean I think you know it all? Absolutely not. I’m sure you could learn more and do better. We all can.

But ultimately, I think most of us know the difference between healthy, whole, nutritious foods, and the straight-up junk.

And yet, still, it can be hard to eat well, especially in this crazy-busy world we’re living in!

I love to share suggestions and ideas on menu planning, simple swaps you can make to make your family’s dinners healthier, and recipes, but for today, let’s just focus on you.

For today, let’s just focus on those moments where you’re on the move. You didn’t plan ahead, and suddenly it’s an hour past when hunger first struck, and you still haven’t eaten.

Or, those moments where you’ve successfully gotten the kids off to school, with their lunch boxes packed and a healthy breakfast in their bellies… and, in the hustle and bustle, you forgot to feed yourself a healthy breakfast!

And you’re overwhelmed, tired, and over-hungry.

In moments like these, do you ever think, “I’m hungry and I have no idea what to eat.”

Yeah. Me, too.
