No marshmallows required, this is truly the best ever sweet potato casserole!

I’ve been bringing this to Thanksgiving for as long as I’ve been responsible for bringing something to Thanksgiving.  Now, it’s just expected:  I bring the sweet potatoes.

Here’s the thing about this dish, though:  we all recognize it’s really dessert.  In fact, once or twice, it’s been served a la mode, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

So, while it might not be considered “light,” it is still from scratch, with whole ingredients.

So, savor it.  Eat it in a sensible portion and enjoy every morsel.  Or skip your least favorite pie, and eat it instead!

No matter what, enjoy, and enjoy sharing it with those you love!

Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, to be with family, and to enjoy yummy food.

I promise you:  take this to your family get-together, and you will most definitely have that last element covered!

Best-Ever Sweet Potato Casserole

Sweet Potato Mixture:

  • 3 c mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 stick butter or margarine (melted)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 c sugar

  • 1 c chopped nuts
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 1/3 c flour
  • 1/2 stick butter or margarine (melted)

  • Mix all sweet potato mixture ingredients together.  Spread in 9 x 13 baking pan.
  • Mix all topping ingredients together, sprinkle on top of potatoes.
  • Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until topping is crisp and sweet potatoes are bubbly.

  • This can easily be prepared a day, or even two days ahead, and kept cold in the refrigerator until ready to bake.  Just place in the oven as it preheats to bring it to room temperature.
  • If you choose to double it, only double the sweet potato mixture.  Otherwise, it’s too sweet.
